Does A Work/Life Balance Really Exist?

Life is hard! There’s no beating around the bush on that. It is what it is.

Granted, there are ways to help make your life easier just as much as there are ways to complicate it further…But, let’s be honest for a minute, shall we? Does a work/life balance truly exist?

Parenting is hard, work is hard and life is just down right hard enough without the previous two involved…add all three together and you have what I call the ultimate shit storm of chaos and constant juggling.

It is not impossible to get your act together and have a balanced family routine, diet & exercise plan in place, organized house, bills in check…etc. But, it’s not as simple as 1, 2, 3 either!

If it were, there wouldn’t be the plethora of organizational calendars, schedulers, life planners for moms, dads, work, life and everything else you could possibly imagine.

People could just wake up and remember the 5,000 things that they needed to do that day and then successfully complete all of them in alphabetical order. (Insert sarcastic laugh)

On top of all of that, there is always something or someone out there that will make you feel like they have their life in order and that you are somehow failing at everything because you suck.

In return you will believe these social media unicorns and feel that you are somehow less than and incapable of achieving some resemblance of having your shit together, too.

Lets be real though…No one has their shit together! They are just better at hiding it than you are.

There is no perfect routine or perfect plan to follow that will somehow magically solve all of your problems.

Life is not a problem to be solved. Life is a journey to be lived.

Every step you take or every decision that you make may not always be the right one, but that is life.

You live and you learn.

There is no way to possibly have everything figured out or even half for that matter.

Just like with children, there is no instruction manual on life. In order to balance something, you must first prioritize what is most important to you and go from there.

It will never be easy and the same thing may not always work twice, but you’ll adapt and you will overcome!

The key is to always stay positive – and never give up!

Life becomes balanced when you put things into a different perspective. Don’t let life become more complicated than it really is. Life is short, but it does not have to be stressful.

Learn to take life one day at a time and really cherish the little things. You’ll be amazed at how some things really will fall into place for you.

Will it be perfect? Hell no! But, it will be worth it!

Life is meant to be enjoyed. Life is meant to be lived.

~50 Inspirational Quotes for Mother’s~

As a mother of three, I know that being a parent is hard. It will take everything you have and then demand for more. Day in and day out you rise to take care of these beautiful souls you have brought into this world.

Their needs and wants fill your head all day until you begin to wonder if you have any thoughts of your own. They argue with their siblings and make messes left and right. You plead for quiet and calm and they respond with loud and chaos.

You begin to question your sanity and wonder if you can make it 5 more minutes without totally losing it. Then it happens. Bedtime has arrived. You tuck them into bed, kiss their heads, tell them you love them and wish them sweet dreams.

I see you there now, gathering your wary thoughts in silence and recapping your day. Wondering if you did everything right as a mother. Did you spend enough time with them? Lose your cool too much? Are you screwing this parenting thing up?

Every mother wonders these things. You are not alone!

You check on your sleeping children and wonder how such calm and precious little faces can be so loud and demanding. They are so peaceful and sweet while they dream. It’s hard to believe hours before they were up running through the house screaming at their siblings and asking for their 50th snack of the day.

I’m here to tell you, you’re doing an amazing job! You’re wonderful, appreciated and loved. They may not see all that you do for them now, but one day they will look back and see that you always had their back. No matter what! You were there for them, cheering them on at school events, helping with homework and encouraging their dreams.

Why are Introverts often misunderstood?

What is the very first thing that comes to mind when you hear the word “introvert”? Is it outgoing, spontaneous, or being a social butterfly? Or perhaps, is it shy, meek, boring or my personal favorite, anti-social… Some of which may be true for a lot of people. However, I am going to be writing this article from my own personal life’s perspective on being introverted.

Let’s dive right in, shall we?

You see, Introverts are not always anti-social, shy, lazy, or boring at all. At least in my case, I do enjoy getting to know people and engaging in meaningful conversations. It’s the shallow “small talk” that I cannot and will not participate in long-term. It is just not who I am. I am not fake, conceited or above anyone else just because I prefer not talking about the weather or what’s currently trending… It’s because I flat-out do not care. That does not serve any purpose or value to myself, my life, my goals or my dreams. Upon meeting me, most people often find themselves perplexed and unable to read me. (Take a seat and join the club) I am not one to be easily read, if at all. That aside, I am one of the most simple and laid back people you will ever meet. Not a lot bothers me these days. In life, problems will always arise. However, it is very important to remember that you have the power in how you react to each of them. No one said this would be easy. Introverts especially have a harder time dealing with this, because over time little issues turn into really big problems if not dealt with accordingly. I would highly recommend taking it on a case by case basis, and not letting it bottle up. Advice, I too, am constantly telling myself. If you find it really hard, reach out to a friend or loved one for wisdom and guidance.

As an introvert and mother of three, I am often misread and accused of being overly complicated or emotionally driven. No, what I am is  extremely passionate about a lot of things. Family has and always will be my biggest love and passion in life. So, when approaching that with me, yeah, I can and sometimes will be overly complicated. My momma bear claws are always out when dealing with someones issues or opinions over my  children. That will always be a line no one wants to cross with me. “Introverted” would no longer be a word in my vocabulary at that point.

“A mother’s love for her child is like nothing else in the world. It knows no law, no pity, it dares all things and crushes remorselessly all that stands in its path.”  ~ Agatha Christie

Turning my focus towards my goals and dreams in life, I have come to realize that being introverted isn’t a red flag or a stop sign at all. I have benefited from my introverted intuition far more than any opportunities missed because of any lack of exertion or fear on my part. I will be turning thirty years old in 2019, and in my nearly twenty nine years on this earth, I have managed to do a lot of great things. I have also burnt many bridges and friendships along the way. I have learned many lessons the hard way and I have rebuilt myself time and time again. Haven’t we all? Introversion isn’t a stigma. It can be used as a powerful tool. What I gather from my own introverted self, is greater depth when it comes to problem solving, looking outside of the box and seeing the bigger picture. Perhaps, even foreseeing potential issues long before they arise. Introversion gives many people an advantage in life. You just have to see it and believe it! I have also learned that there is no perfect time to start something, but I have learned that there are a lot of wrong ways of going about it. Over the past two years, I have really dug deep and have done a lot of “soul-searching”. Some of the things that I found, I didn’t particularly like. It first takes  identifying the problem, before a solution can be reached. What a revelation that can be!

My point is being an introvert doesn’t make you weird or a loner, in the least. It doesn’t make you less desirable than those people who are highly extraverted. On the contrary, introversion with intellectual depth is quite attractive and it possesses strength, power and intuitive thinking that is essential in today’s world. Believe me, big successful companies do not have one single person that is sitting there and coming up with idea after idea, handling marketing and then executing them all by hand… No, no, no… There is a HUGE need for outside of the box thinkers. People who are great problems solvers and who are highly creative, intuitive and have a natural ability to connect with people on a level that actually matters. You just have to look deep inside and really think about what it is that you enjoy doing… What part of your introverted nature do you excel in the most. Then when you find your answer, take it and run with it. Show the world, babe! Show them that you’re unstoppable

Here is an absolutely amazing link to an article titled, “10 Positive Affirmations for Introverted Women”  Please, give it a read! =)

Dream. Create. Inspire.

Everyone has a dream. You will often hear people characterize their dreams by how BIG they are. Well, I’ve never heard anyone say, “I have a small dream”. Dreams are just that…BIG! Each one special in its own way, and just as unique as the person it belongs to. The difference is in how you make them become a reality. What can you create from your dreams, and what is stopping you from getting out there and making it happen?

Dreamed it

Never underestimate the investment that you make in yourself. Life will never get easier, but you will get stronger. In order to manifest your dreams, you must first be able to see yourself at the finish line long before you ever begin the race. Some may disagree, but optimism has a much greater track record for success than doubt ever could. Don’t let yourself get bogged down in the negatives. The “should’ve, could’ve, would’ve’s” will tear you apart if you let them. Compartmentalize your past mistakes and use them as tools to make better more informed decisions in the future. Life itself will always be your greatest teacher. Enjoy the lesson! “The road to success is always under construction.” – Lily Tomlin

*Embrace your imperfections. No one is you and that is your power.*

Your life is your story and you are the Author. Every single day is a blank canvas for you to create a beautiful new chapter. Yes, sometimes things happen in life that is beyond your control. However, you get to decide how you react and what you do next. Life goes on whether you choose to actively participate in it or not. I could come up with a list of excuses or justifications as to why I shouldn’t do something. Maybe you are waiting for that perfect moment. You know, the one where everything just magically falls into place. I hate to break it to you cupcake, but that moment does not exist. If you wait for life to become perfect before you ever take a chance, then you will miss every single great opportunity that comes your way. “Don’t be pushed by your problems. Be led by your dreams.” – Ralph Waldo Emmerson

“You can’t use up creativity. The more you use, the more you have.” -Maya Angelou

Do not wait for opportunity to come knocking on your door. Go out and create it! “Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma – which is living with the results of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of other’s opinions drown out your inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.” – Steve Jobs  That is one of my absolute favorite quotes!

Here is a great article that contains 50 quotes to motivate and inspire you.

I’m a sucker for reading quotes. I enjoy absorbing the great words and wisdom from people and era’s before me. Like many others, I am not someone who can come up with an amazing impromptu speech and public speaking absolutely terrifies me. I can, however, always come up with something better that I “should have” said or done. That’s life, right? Some people are better than others at articulating their feelings into words. For example, have you ever read something and thought, that’s exactly how I feel, but that sounds so much better than how I could have said it? It happens to everyone.

“You are the books you read, the films you watch, the music you listen to, the people you meet, the dreams you have, and the conversations you engage in. You are what you take from these. You are the sound of the ocean, breath of the fresh air, the brightest light and the darkest corner. You are a collective of every experience you have had in your life. You are every single second in every day. So drown yourself in a sea of knowledge and existence. Let the words run through your veins and the colors fill your mind until there is nothing left to do but explode. There are no wrong answers. Inspiration is everything. Sit back, relax and take it all in. ~Jac Vanek

Let your dreams motivate you to create the future that you want to be a part of. Let your creativity shine. Find inspiration from others and become an inspiration to others. Life is a beautiful constant cycle. What are you going to do with the time that you spend in it?

What’s on my Phone?

I’ll admit, I never thought I would be one to do a “What’s on my Phone?” blog post. But, hear me out. Today, there is pretty much an app for everything. Actually, there is an overwhelming amount of apps for everything. Have you ever searched for something and had so many possibilities pop up that you didn’t know which one you wanted. Perhaps, you downloaded a few of them, only to delete some of them moments later when you discovered that it wasn’t quite what you were looking for. I know I have! Tons of times.

I’ve had people ask me before, how did I edit that photo, or how did I collage those pictures like that. Likewise, I have asked people how they got something to turn out the way it did. Its called helping others. If you have the knowledge and tools, it feels really great to be able to share that knowledge with others. It may not apply to everyone, and that’s okay. You have done your part. Now enough of all of that, and lets jump right in.

I have an iPhone X 256gb in silver. I was very skeptical at first with upgrading my trusty iPhone 6s, but so far I have had zero issues with the iPhone X. There was a lot of negative views focused around the notch at the top of the phone, and to be honest, I totally hated the idea of it. After owning this phone for two months now, I don’t even notice the notch. The case that I’m currently using is Apple’s iPhone X Leather Case in Dark Aubergine. It’s holding up nicely. Outstanding quality and durability. It’s worth the price, folks!

Now, on to the apps…

New Home Screen.PNG

Home Screen Apps

The top row is pretty much your basic apps that come with every iPhone. Camera, Photos, Calendar and the App Store. The second row, I have a small folder of my favorite apps that I use to listen to my music. I LOVE listening to music! All day, everyday. Music is always playing somewhere. I use iTunes Store, Apple Music, Pandora, Spotify and the other is SoundMoovz which is an app my daughter uses. I have the Apple Music Family Sharing that I use along with my husband and oldest daughter. It’s great for downloading unlimited songs and creating albums to organize them, and up to six people can share on the plan. I also use Pandora Plus, which I literally only use for its unlimited song skip ability. It’s worth every penny. Then, of course, I have my shortcut to my website – The Introverted Mommy. ♥ Lets go ahead and address the bottom row. We have Phone, Messages, Email and my Social Media folder which has, Instagram, Facebook, Pinterest, Twitter, LinkedIn, KIK, Snapchat, YouTube & Facebook Messenger. All of which are self-explanatory. *I have just downloaded the MailChimp app after someone suggested it.* I’m curious to see how much I like it. See how this suggestion thing works. Pretty neat, in my opinion.

New Second Screen.PNG

Second Screen Apps

Here is where it gets slighty more crowded. We have settings, Apple Watch (I have the Apple Watch 2 and love it! I wear it daily!). Extra’s folder has the Compass, Voice Memo’s, Contacts, etc.. Kid’s folder has my children’s School/Classroom Notification apps. Second row, Games/TV folder has 8 Ball Pool (sorta addicted, not gonna lie), Redbox, Netflix, Vudu, etc. For the next folder, ~Blog/Edit~. I’ll have the blown up screenshot below so you can see it better.

It has WordPress, PicSee (which I use the most for editing photo’s/memes), Collageable, PicStitch, (which is what I always use to collage my photo’s), and Whitigram, I use mainly for Instagram photo’s as it allows me to shrink the picture down with a colored border. Next is Personal apps, Capital One, Discover, PNC, MyFitnessPal. (Extremely helpful little app.) *You consume more calories on a daily basis than you might think!* Last on this row, now that I think about it, is similar to the “Extra’s” folder. It has Reminders, Notes, Calculator, Clock, Facetime, Blah, blah, blah…

Now, we have one of the more “fun” folders, IMO. Shopping!!! First is Ulta. I can and should write an entire blog post on Ulta. I love Ulta! I have saved hundreds of dollars and received so many free products in the process. Then we have apps like Sephora, Victoria’s Secret, Justice (I’m a mom of two girls remember) and Starbucks! Oh, Starbucks is another of my weaknesses. Like Ulta, Starbucks has a points system and you can earn rewards. For example…FREE STARBUCKS!!! Purchase certain drinks on certain days and watch the points and your free drinks add up… How awesome is that?!

Wrapping this all up is Google Maps and Safari. I prefer using safari on my iPhone. For me personally, it’s easier to navigate and search my content quicker. Now, on my MacBook, I’m Google Chrome all the way! It’s all a matter of preference and what works best for you. I hope some of this information offers you an idea on certain apps that may meet your needs, or just something new to try. I’m always open to discovering apps, tips or tricks that might work better than my current setup.

Please feel free to leave a comment listing some of your favorite apps. Also, if you have a “What’s on my phone?” blog post, please list your link below! I’d love to read it!
